For the locals, these animals symbolize strength and prosperity. It is usual for artists and artisans to craft jewelry, decorations and cutlery from the zebu’s horn, and Mr. Dimbitsao is one of them.

But this noble career wasn’t what he initially prepared himself for. After a baccalaureate and university studies by correspondence, Mr. Dimbitsao chose to drop out of school in order to embrace the same career path as his parents, who were in the craft industry and had specialized in zebu horn sculpting, an art running in the family’s blood . But after some time he decides to abandon the idea of such a career and consequently settles in the Malagasy free zone to carry out a normal job. After a few years, destiny sealS his future when he meets Olga, who becomes his wife.

In 2002, following the economic crisis in Madagascar, they both decide to come back to their village, and to integrate the craft industry.

The zebu horn becomes of course, their preferred raw material. He takes in charge of the production aspect of the business, and Olga becomes responsible for the sales and marketing. Although he masters this art almost perfectly , Mr. Dimbitsao feels that he still lacks the necessary tools to perfect his work. Depending on the workload, he casually employs 3 people to help with the production.

Two industrial engines do the job, but the wheels need to be changed frequently and this incurs much cost.

Mr. Dimbitsao’s customers remain mainly Malagasy, but their products are highly appreciated by travelers as well. By promoting the honey spoons made by Mr. Dimbitsao, we humbly help artisans make a living out of their craft work.
